Address lookup

Type a street address and get its judicial canton and every court for it. In a city split over several cantons the house number decides, which a postal code can’t tell.

Try: Kerkstraat 10, 2060 Antwerpen · Rue de la Loi 16, 1000 Bruxelles · Place Saint-Lambert 18, 4000 Liège

With belgica
import { findCantonsAt } from 'belgica/canton-boundaries'
import { getCourtsForCanton } from 'belgica'

// The point from the address register: Kerkstraat 10, 2060 Antwerpen
const [canton] = findCantonsAt(4.429126, 51.217827) // antwerpen-4
getCourtsForCanton(canton.id).map((c) => c.id)

How it works

Your browser sends the address to its region’s own register: the Adressenregister in Flanders, UrbIS in Brussels, ICAR in Wallonia. For a house number the register knows, the point is on the building, so the even and odd sides of a boundary street fall in the right canton. The point is then looked up in the NGI’s canton boundaries, as findCantonsAt does, and the canton gives its courts, as getCourtsForCanton does. Within 25 m of another canton the lookup warns and shows the law’s text for both.

The canton boundaries are the NGI’s drawing of the Judicial Code’s annex: where they differ, the law decides. Reference data, not legal advice.
